BED BUGS
Bedbugs have piercing and sucking mouthparts and are bloodsuckers at all stages of their development or life cycle. Bedbugs are widely distributed across the world, however they are encountered less now than in earlier times due to general improvements in the world’s standards of hygiene and the use of effective pesticides.
Current information available suggests that bedbugs are not involved in serious disease transmission thankfully, however their habit of biting humans while they sleep can be extremely irritating. The number or incidence of bites may be extreme in situations where bedbug infestations are allowed to develop to high numbers.
When heavy infestations are located they are often accompanied by a “sickly sweet bug type odour” due to bedbug body secretions. Bedbug bites may be painless with no allergic reactions although many people may report otherwise. When bedbugs bite their victim they inject their saliva which has anticoagulant properties.
