BOOKLICE
Booklice are very small insects with chewing mouthparts, found mostly scavenging in damp conditions such as under mulch and other garden litter. Their distribution is determined by their requirement for high humidity levels. Occasionally booklice are found inside buildings but because of their small size (1-2mm) they may be difficult to detect.
Feeding mainly on microscopic moulds that may grow on poorly stored books, paper, leather, natural fibre, carpets and certain foods, these soft bodied insects take advantage of poor storage conditions, and may inadvertently damage items in the process of harvesting the moulds growing on them.
The species of booklice usually found indoors are wingless, agile and fast moving.
