FURNITURE BEETLES

Furniture Beetles (Anobium punctatum) only attack older (20 years old or more) softwood timbers in service. The latest remedial treatments are effective, offering long term protection in most situations.

Often discovered in older softwood flooring and antique furniture.

POWDERPOST BEETLES

Powederpost Beetles (Lyctus brunneus) only attack the sapwood of hardwood timbers. Treatment is not usually necessary as modern building regulations govern the use of sapwood in structural timbers.

Replacement of the timber is the best practice in extreme cases.

AMBROSIA BEETLES

Ambrosia Beetles(Platypus australis) are commonly called Pinhole Borers and only attack timber before it is milled and seasoned for use. Once the timber is seasoned these borers die so control of these borers in buildings is never required.

TIMBER DAMAGE

Timber Damage shows typical visual damage to timber following borer activity. The exterior surface of the damaged timber has many borer “exit-holes” or “flight holes” of varying size.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Any extensive internal damage may only be seen by breaking the timber apart.
