WOOD DECAY
Wood Decay Fungi is one of the greatest destroyers of timbers in service, in Australia. Causing millions of dollars damage across the country every year, it can easily be identified, possibly avoided and even halted.
Wood Decay attacks timber when moisture levels in the timbers are too high (18% or more). If conditions allow for moisture levels to be above “normal” for extended periods of time, decay may quickly set in and reduce greatly the expected life of your timber assets.
Seasoned timbers typically have moisture levels of between 10% and 15%, varying depending on location in Australia. Moisture levels of timbers near Australia’s coastal areas tend to be in the higher range (15%), with timbers located more inland being in the lower level moisture range (10%).
